Javier Rey at the BeCurious event, Leeds, 2026.
The Quantum Communications Research Group at the University of Leeds once again took part in BeCurious, the University’s annual public engagement event, bringing quantum technologies closer to families and young learners through an interactive and engaging activity.

Following his successful participation in previous editions, doctoral candidate Javier Rey represented the group at BeCurious 2026 with his interactive stall, “How do we enter the quantum realm?”. Throughout the day, visitors of all ages had the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of quantum technologies through games, challenges, and conversations about how quantum research may shape future technologies and impact our everyday lives.
Using accessible and playful activities, Javier encouraged children and families to ask questions, share their ideas, and discover some of the principles behind quantum communication. The activity provided a valuable opportunity to break down complex scientific concepts and show how cutting-edge research connects with society.
BeCurious 2026 brought together researchers from across the University of Leeds, offering families a chance to engage directly with research through hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations. The event celebrated a decade of inspiring curiosity and strengthening the connection between the University and the wider community.
The Quantum Communications Research Group’s participation highlights the importance of public engagement in sharing the potential of quantum technologies and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
