Javier Rey at the BeCurious event, Leeds, 2025.
Be Curious is a free, family-friendly event filled with interactive activities created by researchers. The event features hands-on experiments and educational experiences in subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, and geology.

Children of all ages engage in fun workshops—blowing bubbles, exploring the human body, playing with cornstarch mixtures, and learning about rocks and forests. The main goal was to “spark curiosity, inspire children, and create meaningful connections between research and the wider world.”
Once again, this year our quantum communications research group at Leeds partipated in the BeCurious event organized by the University. For the entire day on the 17th of May, Javier Rey received families in his stall titled “How do we go into the quantum realm?”, with an attendance even grater than that of last year! Armed with some videogames, a couple of tasks to solve and some informational leaflets, we played and chatted with children and parents alike about quantum technologies and how they might impact our everyday lives, and more importantly, we had tons of fun answering all of their interesting questions and listening to their impressions.
The event was well-attended and successfully showcased the university’s research in an engaging way for the public.
