Complementary Skills

First Complementary Skills Workshop, Amsterdam.

The first Complementary Skills Workshop for the Doctoral Candidates was held at the University of Amsterdam from June 27 until June 30, 2023, being the first two days chaired by Christianne Vink, from the Reflect Academy in Netherlands. The contents of the workshop included discussions about: the qualities that are needed to be a good researcher, as well as ways to develop them;  different challenges and how they could affect their daily research habits; the development of an outline for their individual research; attention management and tips and tricks for better focus while working, such as drowning out external distractions and reminding themselves to take breaks; time management; as well as metacognition and their personal character traits.

The last two days the Doctoral Candidates attended the “QSC 4th Quantum Training on quantum-safe cryptography” that was organized by the associated partner of the QSI network CWI, at Amsterdam Science Park. In this event, Lisa Kohl (CWI, Amsterdam) and Peter Bruin (MI, Leiden) gave introductory lecturers on post-quantum cryptography. This training was opened as well to other attendees, mainly focused to PhD students and postdocs, though advanced master students were welcome to attend as well.
