ABOUT QSI

QSI aims at training a world-class cohort of Doctoral Candidates capable of taking the next essential steps in the highly demanding area of cybersecurity.

DOCTORAL TRAINING PROGRAMME

QSI has been designed with the following principal training objectives for our Doctoral Candidates:

To train them in relevant Quantum-Safe technologies.

To train Doctoral Candidates in relevant Quantum-Safe technologies (through their project) suited to their specific talents and in a broad range of advanced technologies pertinent to future Quantum-Safe applications.

To provide them with enhanced appreciation for implementig scientific results

To provide Doctoral Candidates with enhanced appreciation for implementing scientific results into new technology within the private sector, and with skills in the management of scientific and industrial projects.

To secure their career prospects

To secure the career prospects of the Doctoral Candidates by offering them training in transferable skills and a diverse experience in the public and private sectors as well as in academic and industrial environments.

To enhance the competitiveness of the EU

To enhance the competitiveness of the EU by developing a model for structured doctoral training that will endure beyond the life of the project and address the challenges of future Quantum-Safe technologies.

PROJECT SUMMARY

This training network provides research and training opportunities to a new generation of Doctoral Candidates, who, in the long-run, shall address the Grand Challenge of providing “Quantum-Safe Internet”, i.e., a communication infrastructure that is secure against not only classical attacks but also those enabled by quantum technologies.

We combine, via a collaborative long-term interdisciplinary approach, expertise in all relevant communities to address key fundamental problems in secure communications in the quantum era, and the important applications therein.

Today’s Internet security heavily relies on computational complexity assumptions, and as such is seriously threatened by advancements in quantum computing technologies. Indeed, we have recently witnessed a wave of key developments in this direction by a number of IT giants, like e.g. Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Intel. This particularly jeopardizes applications that require long-term security. The number of such applications is continuously growing as more and more of our private information is stored and communicated in a digital way, e.g. in electronic health records, which are now required by European legislation to remain secure for a long time. This requires us to urgently develop and implement new solutions, as we plan to do in this Doctoral Network.

In addition, we aim to build strong lasting links between strategically selected industry and academic partners, in different disciplines, via the development of novel technologies for practical applications in data security.

OUR PARTNERS

QSI includes a set of strategically chosen beneficiary and associated partners with complementary expertises in the field of Quantum-Safe cryptography. The former host and supervise the Doctoral Candidates, while the latter add value to the programme by offering secondments and contributing to the training events and dissemination activities.
